There are three main stick grip types in use today, each has its own advantages and tricks. Before proceeding any further, you need to learn about the fulcrum point.
The Fulcrum Point Basically, the fulcrum point refers to the balancing point. Finding the fulcrum point of the stick will ensure that the stick does most of the work, saving you lots of energy and pain. Contrary to common misconception, that balancing point is NOT at the middle of the drum stick. This is because the drum stick is not of a uniform shape. It has a lighter tip and a heavier bottom. Even when the drum is on a stand, many drummers will tilt their drum when using traditional grip, although tilting is not required. Many drummers use traditional grip on drums that are perfectly horizontal, especially in marching percussion.
In order to achieve this grip, simply start by sticking your first two fingers out with your thumb sticking straight up. Then simply place your stick between your thumb and your other fingers.
After the stick is in place, simply close your top two fingers gently on the top of the stick The stick should be loose in your hand.

The Matched Grip
In the matched grip each hand holds its stick in the same way, whereas in the traditional grip, each hand holds the stick differently. Almost all commonly used matched grips are overhand grips. Specific forms of the grip are French grip cheap five fingers , German grip, and American grip.
The matched grip is performed by gripping the drum sticks with one’s index finger and middle finger curling around the bottom of the stick and the thumb on the top. This allows the stick to move freely and bounce after striking a percussion instrument.
